In previous years I have set the smoke alarm off and melted the icing. This year, I went Roman (my husband is so old that he did Latin at school anyway) and he enjoyed working out how old he is. I think I'll do it all again next year!

These are a great way of putting candles on a cake without revealing the birthday boy/girl's age. Be warned though, they burn very quickly so do not light them until the last possible minute.

These were brilliant! People didn't notice the naff birthday cake I had bought cos they were looking at the candles!! Only thing I would have liked to see is a leaflet with which numerals matched which number - had to look 46 up on the internet to find out the correct candles to use! Apart from that, they were great!
